Decision Machines
From 2018 to 2021 I worked on Decision Machines, a Bureau of Investigative Journalism project dedicated to holding data power to account. In 2019 we published a report on how the British government buys digital systems, using a combination of procurement data analysis and Freedom of Information requests. I presented some of our findings at the AI Traps conference in Berlin that year.
I also contributed a chapter to Fake AI (Meatspace Press, ed. Frederike Kaltheuner 2021) about some older fables of predictive systems, featuring Albertus Magnus, Gerbert of Aurillac, Roger Bacon, Robert Grosseteste and various talking heads.
