Black Sites
In 2010 I started work on uncovering operations at the CIA's eastern European secret prison sites. Over the years this led to a variety of public facing products and outcomes:
landmark litigation at the European Court of Human Rights
an award-winning art book (Negative Publicity, Aperture 2016) and attendant exhibitions and seminars
academic publications (‘Tracking rendition aircraft as a way to understand CIA secret detention and torture in Europe’, International Journal of Human Rights 2015; ‘Foreign “liaison partners” and the CIA’s economy of detention’, Routledge 2018)
CIA Torture Unredacted (2019), the most comprehensive report to date on the history of the CIA's extraordinary rendition programme
an amicus brief to the US Supreme Court (2021)
My work in this area has been supported by Reprieve, The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and The Rendition Project, among others.
